Then hop over to the Hudson Valley Hullabaloo in Kingston this weekend.
In its 5th year, the Hullabaloo is a carefully curated event, featuring hand-crafted products from 75 local small businesses—craftspeople, makers, designers and other local artisans. Here you’ll be able to find unique gifts with a story to tell, for everyone on your list.
No need for selfies, at Hullabaloo you can have your portrait drawn by Will Lytle for $1 or experience Tom Delozza’s wet plate photo booth and have a beautiful black-and-white portrait created, or go for Peter Demuth’s s wild and crazy photo booth!
If all this photography makes you hungry, there will be lots of delicious food options. Grounded will be offering up coffee and fresh baked croissants all weekend. For something unusual you could opt for one of Samosa Shack’s samosas. She’ll have Potato Pea. Coconut Squash Curry, both vegan, and a Paneer Tikka Masala along with a special dessert and a chai spiced apple cider. On Saturday (only). Kingston Bread Lab will be there selling bread and making sandwiches.
Looking for something delicious to take home? My friend Kristin Nelson, the Ardent Homesteader, will be there with her amazing caramel sauce, Cara-Sel. She may also be baking up some caramel-themed goodies, so keep an eye out.
It’s not just about food though. Kristin says “I love the Hullabaloo for its mix of incredibly creative and talented vendors with unique items in a wide range of prices - something for every budget. There is an almost electric upbeat vibe thanks, in part, to an incredible DJ - seriously, he is amazing - and three super cool ways to commemorate your day: hand drawn portraits by Thorneater Comics, Peter Demuth's whimsical photo booth, and Tom Delooza's wet plate collodion photography. Top it all off with great food from Grounded and, my personal favorite, Samosa Shack and you've got yourself a great day.”
There will be one-of-a-kind gifts ranging from hand-made straight edge razors (not for the over-caffeinated or faint of heart), candles including “Lumbersexual", a campfire and red wine candle, leather goods (including a leather swing), furniture, works of art, jewelry and more.
Hullabaloo is at the Andy Murphy Midtown Neighborhood Center in Kingston. Hours are Saturday, November 18th from 10-5 and Sunday 11-5. Admission is $2 for the weekend and kids under 14 are free. For more information and a complete list of vendors, click here.
