Do you have something to celebrate, and are looking for a place to throw the party? If so, I have a new place for you to check out. RH241 is a new event space that recently open in New City, on South Little Tor Road. A full renovation has turned the former Red Hill Café into a pretty venue with a rustic, but modern farmhouse feel.
New owner and chef, Andrew Michaels, took over the site in 2020 with the intention of turning it into an event space. With the onset of the pandemic, he turned the existing ice cream window into "The Window", and began offering some of the favorites from the old café in addition to many new items for patrons to pick up. The Window quickly became a huge success and Michaels took the opportunity to renovate the interior of the building while restaurants and other businesses were in shutdown.
Then finally this spring, when things began to re-open, Michaels was able to turn vision into reality. In a space he designed himself, he is pairing great food with great surroundings, and ready to cater events.
The color palette of blue, slate, and white is clean and inviting. A real moss wall, a variety of shelf décor, and a large, vintage mural of Cropsey Farm’s produce stand creates the epitome of casual elegance, and lends it to be a great space for black tie or more relaxed events. As Michael’s told us, he can provide events and parties of many different sizes, and accommodate many different tastes and budgets.
Michaels, spent much of his career in upscale private parties and high-end corporate catering through-out Manhattan and Westchester, but he always knew he want to tell his own story and bring something different to the conversation of food and events. To complement his skills, he has brought in pastry chef, Sean O’Connell, formerly of Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality group. It is a great match-up of talent.
At a recent ribbon cutting and fundraiser, which by the way raised over $1600 for the Catholic Charities Community Services of Rockland’s food pantry, we were treated to a sneak peak of the food. Crab cakes, mini tacos, smoked salmon crostini, rainbow macaroons, and cheesecake, gave us all a reason to want to throw a party.
Inside RH241 can hold up to 80, and is available for everything from small weddings, to showers, rehearsal dinners and business meetings. If you like outdoors, the event space can be opened to the side patio or can be held in the green house or gardens of the adjacent Red Hill Nursery. Off premise catering is also an option.
Plans are in the works for a wide range of community events at RH242. You can look forward to painting nights, wine and charcuterie parties, cooking classes and pop-up restaurant events. But for now, don’t forget to visit the “The Window” at RH241, which is open Tuesday-Sunday, for sandwiches, salads, and ice cream.
